MIT OpenCourseWare: free resources from one of the best universities in the world
Welcome dear reader. In this post we will be talking about the MIT OpenCourseware or MIT OCW, a great platform to learn your favourite Machine Learning topics online. Lets get to it!
The Why of MIT OpenCourseWare
With more and more online resources being published everyday, it is not evident where to go to get the most out of our time when trying to learn a skill online.
Aside from time, which is a very relevant concern, it is not obvious either where to go to get the most out of our money. Some courses are extremely expensive and end up being a total disappointment, while others that are relatively cheap end up being fabulous.
At How to Learn Machine Learning, on our quest to guide our readers to the best possible resources to learn Machine Learning, we’ve put together a wide range of free and paid online courses which we think are top notch, and also great book reviews so that you can find the text that best suits you.
Today, we want to introduce you in depth to MIT OpenCourseWare.
What is MIT OpenCourseWare?
To fully understand what MIT OpenCourseWare is, we first have to understand the concept of OpenCourseWare.
At is core, OpenCourseWare (OCW) consists on the publishing of learning material as ‘open content’. This means that the IP of certain pedagogical content (lessons, homework, lectures, etc…) is openly and freely published online for anyone to consume. The content published is usually related to subjects from superior university programs, like bachelors and Mscs.
MIT OpenCourseWare is just that: free lecture notes, exams, and videos from the Massachussets Institute of Technology, one of the most prestigios technical universities in the world (@MIT) . These courses are easily accesible, requiere no registration, and are part of MIT’s Office of Digital Learning.
What Courses can I find?
The courses on MIT OpenCourseWare vary from deeply technical, like Nuclear Physics, Alegebra, or what interests us the most, Machine Learning, to more social related like Phsycology, Business, or Art.
These courses are listed by topic, and each topic contains a wide range of individual courses that cover different topics and requiere different levels of expertise. In the Computer Science > Artificial Intelligence category, we can find some of the following courses:
These courses are a great companion to other resources like these great books to learn Machine Learning and AI:
- The 100 page Machine Learning Book
- Hands-On Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn & Tensorflow.
- Deep Learning with Python by Francois Chollet.
This MIT Open Learning strategy is something fantastic from our point of view, which follows the steps of what other learning institutions like Stanford University are doing.
You can find the official website for MIT OpenCourseWare here. Check out their awesome and vast list of lessons! Also, you can keep up to date with their newest content by following their Twitter account here. If you pop on to Twitter to follow them, don’t forget to follow us too!
How to access MIT OCW courses?
Aside from their website, you can find a lot of MIT OCW courses on their Youtube channel. They have created a series of lists with ordered lectures for each course, which you can take whenever and wherever you like. Check out the first lesson of the course Mathematics of Big Data and Machine Learning to see the top quality content they produce.
That is all, we hope that you liked the post and that you have learned what MIT OpenCourseware is. Have a great day and don’t forget to share our site with your friends and follow us on Twitter!
